The Australian Council for Educational Research has been appointed to manage the marking of the NSW Department of Education Year 6 Check-in Writing assessment student responses.

The Year 6 Check-in Writing assessment will be held in ACER’s marking centre located in Alexandria, Sydney.

No previous experience in large-scale marking operations is necessary however, preference will be given to primary teachers and secondary literacy-trained teachers, and experienced markers of literacy assessments.

Marking is scheduled to take place over a three-week period during September/October 2023.

Compulsory Training for all markers will take place at ACER Alexandria on Saturday 16 September, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Week 1:

18 September to 22 September (day and evening sessions).
Day sessions: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
Evening sessions: 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm (subject to interest)

Markers employed for week 1 day and evening sessions will be expected to continue marking the day sessions in Weeks 2 and 3.

Weeks 2 and 3:

25 September to 6 October (Day session only).
Day sessions: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

To accommodate practising teachers, evening sessions are planned for week 1. These evening sessions will run subject to interest.

Marking commences:

  • Monday 18 September for markers available for Weeks 1, 2 and 3.
  • Monday 25 September for markers available for Weeks 2 and 3 only.
