Time: 9:30am - 4:00pm
Join Dr Roslyn Neilson at ACER for a full day workshop, and learn how to make phonological and phonemic awareness a routine part of enriched classroom practice.
What do we mean by phonological awareness?
How does it include phonemic awareness?
Why is it important as a foundation for learning to read and spell?
How do you assess phonological awareness?
What do you do once you have assessed phonological awareness? Specific strategies to support development at different stages will be demonstrated.
Three assessment tools will be discussed: the SPAT-R, which has been available for many years, and two tests that have emerged from it to complement the assessment process, the SEAPART and the FELA. Participants will be given an overview of the three tests. The discussion will include how to choose which test to administer, how to do the administration, and how to interpret the results.
