Description

Reading Mastery

This workshop will give participants a program overview and provide ample time for everyone to practise the various presentation techniques.

Reading Mastery Signature Edition Reading strand is a six-level Direct Instruction developmental reading program for primary aged students. It explicitly teaches the skills of phonemic awareness, letter-sound correspondence, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.

Children learn to read accurately and quickly and are taught spelling skills as well. The program begins with sentences and short stories and moves through to information passages and abridged versions of classic literature such as Homer’s The Odyssey. It also teaches students how to make inferences, complete deductions and write essays, and the workbooks give children extensive practise in answering literal and interpretative questions.

Participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate the capacity to use and get the best out of Reading Mastery materials

  • apply knowledge to implement direct instruction teaching strategies.
