Westmead Feelings Program 2 Facilitator face-to-face workshop

The Westmead Feelings Program is a treatment program researched since 2004 that aims to promote the wellbeing of young people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and prevent the onset of mental health concerns by developing skills in understanding their own and others’ emotions and emotional regulation. In 2019 the Westmead Feelings Program team was awarded the Advancement Award from Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) for innovation in improving the lives of people on the autism spectrum.


The Westmead Feelings Program 2 Facilitator face-to-face workshop is for:

Professionals interested in being certified in delivering Westmead Feelings Program 2. Westmead Feelings Program 2 is suitable for children with verbal language skills.

The Westmead Feelings Program 2 has been developed for young people aged 8 to 12 years.

The Westmead Feelings Program workshop will be delivered by the authors of the Westmead Feelings Program from The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Dr Michelle Wong (Author and Founder) and Anita Gardner (Author).


This two-day workshop will cover:

  1. Understanding social-emotional needs of young people with autism.
  2. Understanding and applying strategies to suit the learning needs of young people with autism.
  3. How to deliver:
  • 16 Westmead Feelings Program Child Sessions
  • 7 Westmead Feelings Program Parent Sessions
  • 7 Westmead Feelings Program Teacher Sessions

The workshop includes didactic teaching, demonstrations of therapy sessions, workshop participant role plays and a certification process.


Who can attend this two-day workshop?

The Westmead Feelings Program 2 Facilitator Workshop has been designed for Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, School Counsellors, Special Educators and related professionals who have professional experience working with children with autism and are interested in expanding their therapeutic skills.

About the presenters

Dr Michelle Wong is a Clinical Psychologist who has specialised in providing assessment and treatment services to young people with social and communication disorders, including autism and Intellectual Disability, and their families for almost 20 years. Since she founded the Westmead Feelings Program in 2004, Dr Wong has managed the Westmead Feelings Research Program and is one of its authors. Dr Wong is a well-respected educator in the field of psychology and provides supervision and training to a range of professionals. She consults to government and non-government disability and education organisations in Australia and overseas as an expert in the support of children with autism and Intellectual Disability. Dr Wong completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and PhD at the University of Sydney.

Anita Gardner is a Registered Psychologist with almost 20 years of experience working in the field of autism. Anita joined the Westmead Feelings Program Team in 2017 and is currently the lead researcher in the pilot study of an adapted Westmead Feelings Program targeted at adolescents with autism and mild Intellectual Disability. Anita’s passion for supporting autistic children and young people and their families is evident in her clinical practice, presentations and research. Anita has presented at national and international conferences on a variety of topics including positive behaviour support, social-emotional interventions and a workshop on video modelling. Anita has been a guest lecturer at Western Sydney University and is also a Board Approved Psychology Supervisor.

  • Workshops with insufficient registrations will be cancelled.


Proceeds from the Westmead Feelings Program Facilitator Workshop go towards autism research.
