Important Announcement: VCAA Languages Assessments Discontinuation

VCAA Languages Assessments will be discontinued at the end of 2025.

Please take note of the following key dates:
Last day to complete testing: 30 November 2025
Last day to access reports: 31 December 2025

We encourage all users to:
Finalise any remaining assessments before the testing window closes
Download and securely store all required reports before access ends

The Languages Assessments are a suite of online language assessments, developed and hosted by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), to test students’ listening and reading skills in target languages.

They can be used on demand by teachers, and provide snapshots of students’ listening and reading skills, which can be used to better target individual students’ learning needs.

Format and reporting

The Languages Assessments offer separate online, multiple-choice format tests in listening and reading, in increasing levels of difficulty in each language.

The assessments offer teachers instant raw test scores, with extended reporting functionality implemented in 2018.

Please note: While the Languages Assessments have been developed using the Victorian Curriculum: Languages, they are only applicable to the reading and listening components of the curriculum, and as such are not suitable to be used as the sole means to ascertain students learning progress against the Victorian Curriculum: Languages Achievement Standards.

The Languages Assessments are available at no cost to all Victorian schools and community languages providers.
