The purpose of this project was to investigate the assessment of creativity in schools.
The intention was to identify aspects of creativity that are feasible to assess in a school context and develop an assessment framework with some illustrative sample assessment tasks. ACER undertook a review of current literature and also drew on lessons learned from the assessments of critical and creative thinking developed by ACER for an external client. These assessments were designed for students from Year 1 to Year 10 and addressed the ACARA general competency of critical and creative thinking.
The draft assessment framework for creative thinking and the sample assessment tasks that were developed will support ACER’s development of future assessments of creativity. The sample materials could also be used to expand teachers’ understanding of creativity, what effective interpretations of creativity look like, and how they might create situations in their classroom that prompt creativity.
