Seminar Overview – 29 July “Teacher Learning: Selective Attention & Decision-Making” presented by Prof David Clarke and Dr Hilary Hollingsworth.

The focus of this research is those classroom events, objects, actions, statements to which teachers selectively attended in their ongoing instruction during a lesson.  Comparison will be made between novice (pre-service) and experienced teachers' objects of selective attention.  Post-lesson interviews will provide insight into the forms of teacher knowledge accessed by teachers in their decision-making.  Also of interest are the forms of teacher learning associated with teacher classroom practice. The theoretical construct central to all these investigations is the idea of 'salient outcomes' proposed by Clarke and Hollingsworth as mediating teacher learning and change in practice. This project builds upon the previous and recent work of Clarke and Hollingsworth.
