Can I view the full survey before I decide whether to purchase a licence?

Yes. A free 30-day trial of the survey can be 'purchased' via your school's Onine Assessment and Reporting System (OARS) account. Go to the Store tab in your school's account to access the free trial. If your school does not have an OARS account you can register for one at https://www.acer.org/au/oars

Alternatively please email a request to surveys@acer.org including the name of your school. We will reply with a link and a sample login to view the survey form(s) online.

Can I get individual student results from the SEW survey?

No, the SEW is a confidential group survey. Results are reported by year level and gender groups only. If you require a student wellbeing survey that reports individual student results you may be interested in the Six-Star Student Survey.

Can I use the SEW survey if I have fewer than 10 students?

The SEW is a confidential group survey with student responses reported by year level and gender. To maintain confidentiality and to provide reliable data, there is a minimum requirement of at least 10 students in each year level and gender group.

How long does it take to administer the survey?

It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete the Early Years and Primary surveys and approximately 30 minutes to complete the Secondary survey.

How do I purchase the survey?

To administer the SEW your school will need to register for an Online Assessment and Reporting (OARS) account. New schools to OARS can register here

If you are unsure whether your school has an OARS account you can use the Find My School feature.

For further assistance please contact our OARS Help team at oarssupport@acer.edu.au or 03 9277 5324.

Can I administer the survey using paper and pencil forms?

The new edition of SEW is only available through online administration.

Is there more information about the comparison group data?

Yes, please click here to view information about the comparison group data.

What changes have been made to the survey with the release of the new edition?

Based on the statistical analysis conducted with the available data, the main changes from the previous editions include:

  • Reduction of the number of items in both the Primary and Secondary versions. The Primary survey was reduced by 11 items (now 42 in total) and the Secondary by 18 items (now 76 in total). This reduces the administration time and removes the redundancy of unnecessary items.
  • Reclassification of items to domains and aspects. This allows a more sophisticated conceptualisation of SEW.
  • The overall social-emotional wellbeing of students across both the Primary and Secondary versions of the survey is now described using five levels: Low, Emerging, Developed, Highly Developed and Very Highly Developed.
