The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) has been recognised at the GESS Awards 2025 for its work to strengthen inclusion and equitable assessment practice, particularly through adaptive testing.

A Judges Commendation Award was received by ACER for outstanding merit in the ‘Supplier’ category.

ACER was selected based on its contribution to providing fair, accessible and meaningful insights into every learner’s progress – ensuring assessment reflects what students know and can do, and what they need next to progress, regardless of their starting point.

The judges also commended ACER for its work around the world as a leader in educational research and measurement.

Adaptive testing plays a central role in this work. By adjusting to each student’s current level of understanding, it helps educators gain an accurate picture of learning, identify strengths and areas for development, and plan next steps that support progress for every learner, including those who require additional support or challenge.

Dr Jarrod Hingston, Head of Division, Student Learning and Progress, accepted the award along with the ACER Middle East team.

‘We are honoured to receive this recognition. ACER’s purpose has always been to support educators and systems in improving learning for all. This commendation speaks to the work, passion and dedication of our teams globally and in the Middle East region, who are committed to advancing fair and equitable assessment for every learner, informed by 95 years of our assessment research and psychometric expertise,’ Dr Hingston said.
