Course in detail
The course is delivered in three parts.
Part 1: Self-paced online learning: six hours
In Part 1 of the course, participants develop skills and knowledge about the purpose of assessment in a developmental approach.
Participants are introduced to key research relating to good assessment practice and an overview of the PAT assessment suite and scales. Participants engage in activities based on their own context to identify how they currently use PAT in their schools. Using a short case study as a model, participants are guided through a process to identify accurately which PAT phase their school is in.
Participants are then introduced to setting appropriate goals for their school and the online supported learning community.
Part 2: Supported online learning: 100 hours (over 20 weeks or approximately two terms)
In Part 2 of the course, participants engage in a structured online professional learning community. The learning activities, expert facilitation and coaching are designed to support participants’ identified goals and implementation plans, encourage peer learning and develop sustainable professional networks.
Part 3: Implementation plan (learning assurance task) and webinar: four hours
Part 3 of the course is a learning assurance task in the form of an implementation plan using PAT data. These tasks will be assessed by ACER experts. The live (recorded) webinar provides an opportunity for participants to share their implementation plans in a virtual celebration.
Participants are encouraged to submit their work for presentation at the annual Excellence in Professional Practice Conference (EPPC). To learn more about EPPC, visit www.acer.org/eppc
On successful completion of the course, participants will receive an ACER certificate of achievement.
